During her reign so far\, the Queen has welcomed 14 prime ministers\, and has been a loyal and well-loved monarch\, since 1952 there have been far-reaching changes by way of technical advances\, changes in moral attitudes\, and behaviour. \nBungay and its people have not lived in a vacuum during the last 70 years and most of the changes outlined above have affected them. \nSome of the long-established businesses such as Nursey & Son have scaled back their business activities\, whilst others such as Fen Farm and their cheese making have emerged. \nThere are very few shops in the town undertaking the same type of trade they were in 1952 and a good number of the pubs have disappeared during the 70 years that has passed. \nMany of the Bungay buildings have gone—replaced in most cases by newer fit-for-purpose developments \nLocal celebrities have made their lasting impact on the town and left their legacy\, and the Town’s people have celebrated national events. \nAll of this and more is reflected in this exhibition. \nThe booklet that accompanies this exhibition\, also called “Happy and Glorious”\, gives an in-depth view of a number of changes\, most of which confirm why so many people regard Bungay with such affection -whether they are a True Bungayan\, or a ‘Furriner’ (a comparative newcomer to the town) \nOTHER EVENTS \nFriday 29th April Preview with reception 7.30PM. \nTalk by Sir Laurie Magnus\, Chair\, Historic England -Admission is free\, but donations welcome- booking is essential. \nSaturday 30th April until Sunday 8th May- Main exhibition \nOpen 10.00am to 4.00pm – Admission free but donations welcome for expenses\, future funding & local charities \nSunday 1st May at 2pm. -A Walk around Bungay highlighting Town Centre changes 1953-2022. SUMMARY:MHA LARKING GOWEN CITY OF NORWICH HALF MARATHON
DESCRIPTION:First staged in 1985 by Duke Street Running Club\, this race was originally based in the centre of Norwich – hence its name.  Then in 1993 it moved to the Norfolk Showground on the western outskirts of the city and it’s been there ever since. \nThe race starts and finishes within the Norfolk Showground and follows a rural single lap route through the parishes of Easton\, Honingham\, Colton\, Barnham Broom\, Marlingford and close to Easton College. The first half of the course is pretty flat with one or two little bumps in the second half. All roads along the race route are closed to through traffic while the race is in progress. \n

SUMMARY:The Waveney Valley Line
DESCRIPTION:Authorised by the Waveney Valley Railway Act on 3 July 1851.The line opened in stages\, firstly from Tivetshall to Harleston on 1 December 1855\, then to Bungay on 2 November 1860\, and finally to Beccles. When the line was completed it was incorporated into the Great Eastern Railway. The line then became part of the LNER on 1 January 1923. Starston and Redenhall stations were closed in 1866\, only 11 years after the line opened. \nThe line was closed to passenger services on 5 January 1953\, after which there were some special services run by railway enthusiasts.Freight services continued. From 1960 the line was split into sections – Tivetshall to Harleston and Beccles to Bungay. \nThe lines were finally closed on 19 April 1966 during the Beeching Axe and the track eventually removed. Some of the last wagon loads to leave Ditchingham were sand and gravel from Broome Heath\, used in the construction of Hammersmith fly-over in west London. \nJoin us for a nostalgic trip along the length of the Waveney Valley Railway Line\, including recent and historic views of the lines\, stations and trains \n
